The letter "M" holds symbolic meanings, shifting with cultural contexts or personal interpretations.
As night falls, the vibrant allure of Taipei’s urbanscape awakens. The "M" evokes a sense of "magic" or "mystery," offering an inviting, enigmatic vibe. Its sharp angles and upward lines suggest motion and vitality. Hidden in Taipei, Bar M—a Japanese-inspired bar—cultivates a captivating atmosphere that intoxicates and entices.
Created by a renowned Japanese bartender, Bar M blends Japan’s "Izakaya Culture" with modern trends. It is not just a stop for after-work relaxation, but a place to unwind before heading home. Thus, the design pivots around the central theme of "Relax."
Wood veneer-faced MDF, slat grilles, metalwork, tinted glass, mirror, bespoke furniture, stained-wood, track lighting, concrete texture wallpaper, and vinyl flooring make up the design. By minimizing ornamentation and maximizing natural light, the design creates a gradual layering effect. Sustainable materials, low-VOC boards, and eco-friendly paints ensure a healthy environment without compromising aesthetics.
Inspired by Japanese hospitality (Omotenashi) and a twist of clubhouse charm, the design balances proportions, materials, and lighting, encapsulating Japan’s craftsmanship in this compact 43-sqm duplex. The bar’s liquor shelves, precisely measured, showcase artistry and functionality. Stepping into Bar M feels like déjà vu of Tokyo’s upscale Ginza.
Wooden warmth sets the tone, with light filtering through slats to accentuate the textures. The liquor shelves, more than just storage, become artful displays where each bottle tells a silent story. A cantilever staircase leads to the upper floor, where soft lighting and a blend of wood and metal create a tranquil haven.
The design exudes refined taste, seamlessly blending Japanese aesthetics with city life rhythms. Amidst clinking glasses, light reflecting off the liquor creates a dreamlike state where beauty and emotion intertwine.
