The occupation of the architecture with the center courtyard is around 800 meter square.
Instead of living in the hustle and bustle urban area, the owner wishes to create a space that makes residential living and nature interact and coexist in one through the architectural features. The design concept focuses on gathering local culture and tradition, passing down the spirit of traditional buildings. In this space, seasonal changes can be seen, and all the things and people’s movements and existence can be felt. The red brick exterior wall offers a rather private courtyard space. The wooden material applied for division can be found between surfaces and lines, embellishing the space exquisitely. When sunlight shines in, the atmosphere outside and inside the building appear both soft and gentle. There are also pathways connecting each house, which is a part of the traditional layout of siheyuan.
Through this design, the characteristics of the grain drying field is presented. There are two 5-meter-high walls at the front and back of the building and two architectures seated respectively form a courtyard in between. The form of the architecture demonstrates how people in the past worked hard and relied on nature to live. The courtyard in the center is designed as a public area, with plants and great sunlight and airflow. Two building volumes are designed based on the concept of glass house. With metal structure arranged in the interior, it keeps the exterior appear transparent to see the blue sky, sunlight, and feel the breeze. Such layout and arrangement are meant to express how family members are connected to each other on a daily basis. While offering children a vivid memory now and in the future, it also maintains the everyday relationship harmoniously.
After 10 years, the location of the architecture would also become the center of the living area for the locals. The design will continue to inherit such relaxing and comfortable living.
