Cloud Landmark presented an urgent and challenging design project. The client's vision required highlighting the commonalities between Hangzhou and Paris, a unique theme for this compact 600-square-meter sales office. Our core objective was to reflect the "linking point" between these two iconic cities.
Despite their distinct differences, Hangzhou and Paris share an underlying elegance and refinement. Hangzhou, the former capital of the Southern Song Dynasty, embodies the simplicity and grace of Song Dynasty aesthetics. This subtle commonality aligns with Paris's ethos of sophistication and a relaxed lifestyle.
To translate this concept into spatial design, we employed 16 exquisite colonnades to frame a skylight atrium. At the center, a large white camellia crowns a classical Eight Immortals table, serving as the visual focal point. The atrium's height allows natural light to pour in, with a grille beneath the ceiling casting dynamic shadows across the dark green marble floor throughout the day. This interplay of light and shadow captures the essence of life, or as the French say, "C'est la vie."
The urgency of the project was another challenge, with construction completed in just 28 days. This tight timeline required a focus on essential elements, leading us to forego unnecessary decorations. The result is an elegantly minimalist atrium that leaves a lasting impression, generating significant social media buzz and positive discussion.
Given the constraints, we opted for commonly available materials such as marble and wood finishes. The main white walls were painted with stone texture paint, offering an economical yet visually appealing solution. The final effect is stunning, with photos and videos quickly garnering widespread attention online.
In summary, Cloud Landmark is a testament to our ability to deliver impactful design under tight constraints, balancing display effect, time, and cost. It stands as a prime example of DIA's design prowess.
