Supa Fama’s mission is to encourage a healthy lifestyle through healthy eating, using locally sourced farm-fresh produce for their salad-based meals to educate people on the value of quality ingredients from known sources. The restaurant’s design embraces this focus on informative narration, drawing on imagery of farming, both traditional and contemporary, to create engaging and immersive garden spaces that invites guests to interact with the surrounding flora. Shenzhen’s coastal climate and historic European influence allowed the opportunity to introduce a Mediterranean twist to the brand’s established garden-centric aesthetic, maintaining the brand identity while adding a distinct local character.
The restaurant spans both sides of the shopping mall's public walkway, with the interior space on one side and an outdoor ‘dining deck’ on the other. This outdoor area features tiered timber deck flooring stepping up towards the open air atrium of the mall, framed by vibrant greenery forming cosy dining nooks amidst plants permitted to grow freely, enhancing the organic, wild ambiance.
On the other side of the walkway facing the deck, a reclaimed timber bench seat lines the entire façade of the restaurant. This seating on both sides fosters a theatrical atmosphere, with audience and performer roles played by each guest at different times.
Merging the interior and exterior zones provided a strong base on which to design the floor plan. Our solution integrates seamlessly with the mall, avoiding the segregated feel of a typical mall restaurant. Instead, its openness and visibility creates a harmonious collaboration with its surroundings.
The restaurant interior echoes Mediterranean architecture with brick arches, rough plaster and zellige tiles. The textural materials and hand drawn blue and white wall art create a warm, inviting ambiance reminiscent of having a family meal at a grandparent's home. The aromas from the open kitchen enhance the sensory experience.
