Design Competition Entry

Design ConceptThis project seamlessly blends Scandinavian and Japanese styles with modern elements to create a home that is both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional. Through meticulous material selection, smooth spatial flow, and warm lighting design, we aim to craft a comfortable and layered living environment that meets the high standards of beauty and practicality desired by the residents.

Space OverviewThis competition entry focuses on the living room area, making the dining space the core of the home. The dining table is not just for meals; it also serves as a multifunctional workspace, perfect for building LEGO sets, drawing, doing homework, and reading before meals. This enhances daily interactions and convenience, making the space more versatile and engaging for the entire family. The sofa, upholstered in off-white fabric, is complemented by a specially designed droplet-shaped chaise lounge, which enhances spatial flexibility and allows users to stretch out freely without the constraints of traditional sofa depths. To maximize storage efficiency, a compact storage room of less than one square meter is integrated within the living room, accommodating baby chairs, strollers, laundry hampers, and tool cabinets, ensuring a tidy and organized space.

Design Features

Material SelectionCarefully selected wood grain elements, Nordic-style paint, and hand-scraped matte polished tiles create a warm and cozy home atmosphere while ensuring durability against dirt, impacts, and slips, reducing potential risks for children at play.

Lighting DesignDirect lighting is used to minimize the complexity of indirect lighting, creating a minimalist and pure spatial ambiance. Additionally, the ceiling is designed to subtly enclose the beams, allowing natural light from the garage to flow seamlessly into the interior, enhancing the overall sense of spaciousness and brightness.
