The protection, renewal, and design of Silver Fish Lane is more like a dream making practice, a unique, sustainable, commercial, warm, and interesting challenge.
We have preserved the main architectural textures of the streets and alleys to continue the memories of each period.
As the main line of commercial streets and alleys, the original width of 7 meters has been retained. Designed mini squares with different functions and areas to link all stores. The external commercial street interface has also formed unique characteristics.
Kangqingli is a particularly unique courtyard with three entrances and three exits in this update design.
We have surveyed the building and preserved the basic important components, replacing them with modern materials that cannot be repaired. The treatment of the coexistence of old and new does not want to emphasize modernization, but strives to inherit architectural history in a non mandatory way.
The three courtyards are integrated into mutually accessible spaces, and the ground of each courtyard is paved with different materials and specifications, interpreting the functions and spatial density of different courtyards.
A shallow water system with a strong sense of ritual is placed between the axes of the first courtyard, surrounded by buildings, forming a relaxed and spacious space.
The aerial corridor in the middle courtyard connects all courtyards, while the local colored glass softens the texture of the building's exterior facade through different periods of sunlight.
The easternmost courtyard stimulates vitality with altruism. The exterior facade of the building is only decorated with few modern metal elements and modern lighting fixtures on the wall. The ground still retains the original traces of time on the bluestone slab. Let people in the store feel the spatiotemporal dialogue brought by two spaces through various windows and frames.
