The project is a villa renovated from a house built in the early 20th century, featuring street sizes, planning layout, and architectural styles typical of North American villa communities. However, it now faces limitations in floor height, spatial layout, and privacy to satisfy modern living. This renovation aims to create a home that is both detached from urban noise and integrated with nature within a limited space.
The exterior of the house remained unchanged while the interior underwent a creative renovation to rejuvenate the villa. Structural renovations included the use of a lift-up method, which involved inserting steel plates into columns to elevate the floor height, similar to a "limb lengthening surgery." This approach enhanced the comfort of the living space within the limited floor height. The design team seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor spaces, making nature the visual focus from the moment one enters. A 7-meter long and 3.7-meter-high double-layer tempered glass wall in the living room blurs the line between inside and outside. The villa's layout centers around the living room, with straight lines leading to each functional room, each terminating in a courtyard that connects with the outdoor landscape. This arrangement fosters a unique spatial sequence, creating a living experience that evokes happiness. The courtyard serves as both an independent outdoor space and an extension of the indoors, infusing natural light and vitality into daily life. In the atrium around the living room, decorative lines are varied, and the windows frame distinct leveled views. Multiple daylight openings on the sloping roof provide natural light to bathrooms, bedrooms, and cloakrooms, breaking the confinement typically found in urban residences and creating a bright, vibrant space. This layout, with compact private areas and spacious public spaces, encourages family interaction, allowing family to enjoy personal and communal spaces in lively yet tranquil settings.
