The modern building on Bolshaya Troitskaya Street is situated in the historic center of Hrodna, designed in accordance with height restrictions, historical modularity, and the detailed regeneration plan for the area. The architectural concept reinterprets the rich legacy of the city's historic brick buildings in a contemporary form. Proportionally attuned to its surroundings, the building engages in a contextual dialogue with the historical fabric while avoiding stylization and pseudo-historical imitation.
Demonstrating a respectful approach to the preserved historical structures, the new volume is set back from the historic building line, creating a deeper plot placement. This strategic positioning not only honors the existing urban fabric but also expands the pedestrian walkway, enhancing the public realm. The drainage system is discreetly integrated behind the façade, with water runoff channeled through concealed linear drains.
The building’s silhouette is carefully shaped to accommodate a preserved tree within the site. The architectural massing unfolds in response to the tree, engaging with its natural presence through an interplay of light and shadow. The rhythm of window openings varies in scale and intensity, accelerating as it nears the main entrance, seamlessly blurring the boundary between interior and exterior. Additionally, the brick rustication gradually dissipates as it moves away from the tree, reinforcing the design’s sensitivity to its natural context. The entry space is intentionally carved beneath the tree’s canopy, creating an inviting transitional zone.
This two-story building with an attic is clad in locally produced hand-molded brick, a material deeply rooted in the architectural tradition of the Old Town. The distinctive identity of the façades is accentuated by expressive detailing and intricate brickwork.
