The inspiration for the project comes from the brand “JIAO Glass Beads”. The word " JIAO" symbolizing rebirth and renewal, reflects the brand's new beginning from this location. The core functions of the project are display, creation, and teaching, aiming to construct a space that combines practicality with artistic diversity. The three stages of glass bead making—flaming, melting, and molding—are artistically integrated into the space, making the interior a part of the glass bead story. The project not only showcases the allure of traditional craftsmanship but also highlights the brand's resilience and creativity as it transitions from the past to the future.
The design cleverly utilizes wall lighting and light-shadow effects to simulate the flickering changes of flames during the glass bead firing process. The lighting creates layers of warm tones, not only forging a warm and vibrant atmosphere but also infusing the walls with artistic tension. The rhythm of the light and shadows dances like flames, echoing the high-temperature firing process in glassmaking. The project visualizes the crafting process, allowing visitors to experience the perfect integration of traditional craftsmanship with modern design.
The inspiration from the melting process is transformed into free-flowing lines, presented in cabinetry, corner designs, and lighting fixtures, creating a sense of dynamism. Whether it's the soft curves of the cabinetry or the light fixtures shaped like liquid metal arcs, both display the flowing characteristics of molten glass.
The crystal-clear transparency of formed glass beads is represented through the use of mirrored and frosted glass. Mirrored surfaces expand the perceived space, simulating the luster of glass, while the soft reflection of frosted glass adds a layer of obscurity. The perfect pairing of different materials fills the space with a modern look, showcasing the designers' deep understanding and interpretation of blending tradition with modernity
