Having spent decades living abroad and experiencing scenic vistas around the world, the two homeowners of this project are now retired and entering the next chapter of life. To spare more rooms for each other, the occupants slow down their living pace. The design therefore centers on a simple, composed, and minimalist statement, allowing the retirement life to flow gently and contentedly, like a quiet stream.

A central corridor evenly divides the layout, serving as the primary axis where the rest of the space unfolds symmetrically on both sides. Reimagining the design notion of ‘symmetry’, the master-planning emphasizes the visual balance rather than one-to-one alignment. Clean lines meticulously proportioned massive black spaces: whereas the colors distinguish the utility functions, while furnishings and collection pieces create a tasteful atmosphere. Additionally, the design intends to bring scenic moments into every living corner: the expansive window view can be seen at the entrance, the titanium-clad framed doorway of the dining area, and the feature display at the end of the hallway. These architectural framings guide visual transitions between areas, anchoring the sightline and establishing a sense of rhythm and spatial continuity.

In response to the homeowners’ habit living abroad, lighting was planned beyond basic illumination. The dedicated lighting fixtures were equipped around the bedside, the study, and every reading nook. These lighting elements enable flexible movement throughout the space, decorates styles with illuminating function, and creates an exclusive atmosphere. Notably, the wall sconces and pendant light in the dining area are handcrafted by a Canadian artisan. Made of iron in a branch-like curve, the fixture’s slithering wirings unfurl the natural rhythm of light. Its circular frame evokes the embracing warmth of family, where time quietly flies and memories remain, anchoring a lyrical and intimate heart of the home.
