Located at the convergence of three rivers and watercourses from all directions, Bai’etan in Guangzhou is where the city’s mother river flows into its heart. It’s a place where Guangzhou connects with the world. Over the centuries, the city has continuously evolved, and its open-mindedness and inclusiveness have fostered a unique cultural identity and the refined “old-money” elegance tempered by time.
The clubhouse designed by DIA consists of the ground-floor lobby and the clubhouse and fitness areas on the 7th floor. In addition to the interior design, DIA was also responsible for the design of the building’s entrance. The concept draws inspiration from a traditional architectural form found in the Lingnan region: the “Qilou” (arcade building).
The Qilou is a type of structure with covered walkways below and living spaces above, originally designed to create a cool, comfortable environment for both living and walking. It combines elements of traditional Chinese residential architecture and European-style arcades, symbolizing Guangzhou’s openness to Western influences in modern times. This design creates a “gray space,” serving as a seamless transition between public and private areas, while enriching the layers of both the space and the building’s exterior.
