Nestled 3,000 meters above sea level in Jiuzhaigou’s remote mountains, we revitalized China’s smallest administrative village—a cluster of eight endangered log cabins—into a living archive of Tibetan vernacular culture. The design echoes local traditional architecture with hand-axed wooden shingles, log-hewn staircases, and a layered layout based on the mountainous land.
Facing high-altitude and ecological constraints, we reused reclaimed timber, while the county revived a sawmill for on-site processing. Our low-impact approach grouped guest rooms with each room no larger than 80 m², transforming collapsing cabins into an eco-resort that balances tradition with modernity. The resort features twelve detached lodges and communal spaces, including a reception, restaurant, café, card room, children’s recreational room, media room, and pool.
The social impact of this project extends beyond architecture. Economically, it creates jobs for local villagers and funds infrastructure improvements. Culturally, it presents a sustainable model for preserving high-altitude heritage. Ecologically, it protects Jiuzhaigou’s delicate environment. The result is not just a physical restoration but a meaningful interplay of land memory, cultural heritage, and natural reverence.
