ACCVIRTUE is located in Miaoli, a territory shaped by successive waves of production, leisure, and transformation. In the 17th century, the nearby sugar factory positioned the region as a key export-driven economy, while a coastal resort emerged alongside it, forming a landscape where industry and leisure coexisted. These historical layers remain embedded in the site’s collective memory.
Today, Miaoli is entering a new phase. With the development of the Taiwan Technology Park and the rise of the semiconductor and IT industries, the city is transforming into a forward-looking technological hub. ACCVIRTUE situates itself within this continuum, bridging agricultural-industrial heritage and contemporary technological life.
The project is positioned at the urban edge, mediating between city and ocean. The building mass is oriented westward to frame expansive sea views and sunsets, while maintaining sensitivity to the surrounding natural landscape. Rather than imposing a singular object, the architecture operates as a connective field—relinking urban life with coastal memory.
The façade articulates a process of dissolution, inspired by the crystallization and melting of sugar and salt. Layers of varying opacity and density create a shifting surface condition, allowing architecture to dissolve into light, air, and shadow. Fragmented openings reinforce this transformation while animating interior spaces through natural illumination.
At ground level, the landscape is conceived as a river outlet. Meandering paths, native riparian planting, and integrated resting zones guide movement and encourage moments of pause, extending the architecture seamlessly into the terrain. Along the street, a permeable steel mesh façade paired with greenery softens the urban edge, fostering transparency and pedestrian engagement.
