Courtyard Housing by FdMP architectes and glatz delachaux is a residential building in Eysins that reinterprets vernacular architecture to integrate density with respect and subtlety within a village context.
In Eysins, a village at the foot of the Jura Mountains, Courtyard Housing offers a contemporary response to the challenges of gentle densification.
The project is rooted in the existing rural fabric, reinterpreting the codes of vernacular architecture—double-pitched roofs, prominent gables, and a central courtyard. Through carefully controlled volumetric fragmentation and a sensitive layout, the building blends into the local scale while asserting a contemporary identity.
The inner courtyard, the communal heart of the project, organizes access and encourages social interaction. The apartments, either dual-aspect or triple-oriented, are arranged around glazed loggias that extend the living spaces outward while preserving privacy. Designed to last, the project combines biobased materials, spatial quality, and energy efficiency.
