Connecting people to each other and linking inside and out through the use of a winding counter
A pharmacy with close ties to its community and area
The planned project site was located roughly three minutes on foot from a train station in the city of Toyonaka, in northern Osaka Prefecture.
The area around it was quiet and offered excellent transportation convenience, so it had a large residential population. The community was a warm and neighborly one.
When this pharmacy was renovated under new ownership, we wanted to issue a proposal that would carry on that warm sense of community.
The client also wanted to use an online reception system for prescriptions to reduce or eliminate patient wait times.
We designed a winding, continuous counter that linked the inside and outside, maintaining the sense of community while satisfying the client's wishes.
The winding counter began as a work counter in the prescription lab, turned into a medication pickup counter for patients, and continued on to become the prescription drop-off counter. A glass window was then installed to separate the inside and outside.
This high level of transparency from the pharmacy out into the town reinforced the close ties between the pharmacy and its surrounding community and area.
