The working studio of Dazhou and Assoicates has relocated several times like nomads over the years. Each move requires time to connect with the new space.

This time, we changed the design approach to design more furniture components rather than space. By this means, we saved much on the budget, whilst these well-worn pieces of furniture that carry out memories will journey with us to our next home. Therefore, we preserved the space in its original state. Merely by carving into the beams, columns and walls, hanging metal panels, laying the flooring, designing all the furniture and lighting within the space, then everything falls into the space.

Now it has two zones, one for work, another for experiments. A large, high-ceiling, bright area improves work efficiency and boosts communication. Curtains softly enclose a flexible zone for mockups and tests. We experimented with concrete, bricks, while hosting events.

Unlike most designs that peak at completion, we want it to grow over time into its ideal state. One year later, the humble studio became gradually filled out, which looks like a home. Marc Auge has pointed out that traveller's space is the prototype of 'non-places'. This working space is a confrontation with "non-places", as long as the reflection of overdecoration and overaccumulation among the consumerist culture. After all, it is a humble room, yet virtuously fragrant in reputation.
